Bird Pest Control Services

Bird control technician Alan with Luna our Harris Hawk

All types of buildings can be proofed, from bungalows, private homes, to churches, industrial premises, offices and blocks of flats. Other areas include water treatment plants, farms, marinas and vineyards.

A survey should take place, to identify the species of bird and the problems they are causing. Our specialist surveyors will attend your property and discuss the problem and recommend on how we propose to deal with it.

Types of methods used…

Various sized mesh is used, depending on the type of bird we are dealing with. Nets are UV treated, can be flameproof and guaranteed for 10 years. All straining wires and fixings are stainless steel. Nets can virtually be installed anywhere, depending on access. Cherry pickers can be used for awkward access. Our operators are IPAF trained and carry PAL licences. Abseiling can also be a means of access to difficult areas. Abseilers are fully trained and carry all necessary IRATA certificates and insurance.

Bird Spikes

We only use stainless steel wire anti perch spikes, fixed to an ultra-violet treated base. Over time less expensive plastic spikes deteriorate with UV rays, become brittle and break. Spikes are fixed down with suitable adhesive, depending on the base strata. Problem areas include, widow ledges, fire escapes, waste pipes, gutters, roof ridges, chimney stacks and pots.

Chimney Cages

Chimney Cages are made to measure, using 2”, 12guage galvanised wire mesh. Cages can be made to virtually any size/style, with either domed or pointed tops. Gulls cannot nest on stacks that are caged. Prices vary according to size of stack and number/height of pots.

Chimney Pot Cages

Post and Wire Systems

This system is mainly used on ornate buildings, where it is less obtrusive. It can be difficult to install and take some time. Depending on the base strata, stainless steel rods are either drilled into position, or stuck down, at suitable intervals. Sprung wires are run between the rods. Many conservation officers prefer this method and is often suggested by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Birds.

Bird Post and Wire

A system of speakers, set up to play at random the natural species distress calls, creating an environment appearing ‘hostile’ to the birds. Biacoustics are used anywhere that birds present a hazard to health and safety, or just a plain nuisance. This system is humane, inoffensive and when played back at a natural sound level, remain unnoticed where the public is present. Bird Control Sussex are trained installers of Scarecrow Bioacoustic Systems.

Electric Bird Deterrent Systems

Electric systems give birds an uncomfortable but harmless electric shock, which deters them from landing. They have great value where low visibility is a particular priority and are especially useful in protecting awkward shaped signs, parapets, ledges, roof ridges and pipework. Electrical Systems are highly effective in deterring all bird species, even on nesting or night roosting sites. Bird Control Sussex are installers of the Avishock System.

Egg Oiling

The oiling of gulls eggs during the breeding season can stop a clutch hatching. The parents are rather apt to sit on the eggs and are less aggressive than when they have chicks. Egg oiling will only deter breeding this year, it is labour intensive and the gulls will probably come back next year. Egg oiling must be carried out with a licence from Rural England.

Managing Out

Dealing with pest birds on a regular basis during the breeding season. Some situations are impossible to deal with by conventional methods, or where access is not safe. This method is only used on commercial sites, when it is realised there is no other alternative. All managing out procedures are carried out under licence from Rural England.

Guano Clearance

Pigeons often gain access to lofts and empty buildings. Once they start to breed, the build up of guano is considerable. Pigeon guano carries all sorts of diseases including E-Coli, Salmonella, Psittacosis, Ornithosis etc. There are also mites and nest fleas present. Lofts are cleaned out, fully treated with biocide and fumigated. All dead carcasses and mess removed from site under Waste Disposal Regulations 1994.

Swallows and Sparrow in carports

We are coming across more people with problems in their carports/covered car parks. For most this is a great thing to watch. To others is the re-cleaning of the cars you had the carport built for. We can install 19mm bird netting in a choice of colours. Even fitting zips to change light bulbs.
