Cleankill Pest Control has been named as a finalist in the prestigious Investors in People Awards for the first time.Cleankill is among the elite group of companies shortlisted for The Award for UK Employer of the Year in The Investors in People Awards 2024.Cleankill Managing Director Paul Bates said: “We are all absolutely thrilled to be shortlisted in these awards. Cleankill Pest Controller Josh Bates has been named Pest Controller of the Year in the 2024 national Pest Awards beating thousands of other pest controllers across the country.Josh, who lives in Kenley near Croydon, decided to follow in his father’s footsteps and join Cleankill Pest Control five years ago having spent the previous eight years in John Lewis.He first helped at Cleankill Pest Control when he was just out of school which gave him his first taste of life as a pest controller.
Cleankill senior manager Ian Miller has proudly represented England as part of the over 65s team this year. He has already been to Holland and Germany and will travel to South Africa to play in the Masters’ World Cup in October.Ian has been playing hockey since he was 12 years old and as a teenager he played for Kent in the under 14, under 15 and under 16 teams and then played in the under 16 South East England team. He was also selected for the England under 16 squad along with (future Olympic Gold Medal winner) Sean Kerly.

After the pigeon population exploded at Oxford United Football Club the management knew they had to take action.Fans were being affected with some having to move seats due to pigeon mess, despite the seats being cleaned a few hours earlier. The problem came to a head during ‘sell out’ matches when there were no spare seats to move supporters to.The solution is flying Harris hawks to scare and unsettle the pigeons and it’s proving a huge success.
When technician Josh Bates was called to treat a cockroach problem, it was far worse than he initially thought. After treating the infestation in the kitchen of a premises in South West London using special pet-friendly gels, Josh was asked to check an upstairs bedroom. To his horror, he found a large number of German cockroaches, many in the nymphal stage. The insects were crawling on and behind the fridge freezer and microwave in the bedroom.
